Fraser was a member of the minority left-wing faction of the Liberal Party and unfortunately lead our party from 1975-1983. Howard was the Treasurer, however the buck stopped with Fraser when economic decisions were made and Howard was ignored in this respect, and the ecomony suffered. When Howard became Prime Minister, he allowed Treasurer Costello to call the shots and the $96b debt left by Labor was paid off and economic growth was in very good shape, and unemployment was at record lows.

@fp470 how we conveniently forget that the interest rates, while were high under Hawke/Keating, was much lower by the 1996 election, therefore one can argue Howard inherited that drop too? And that the Rudd government inherited the rising interest rates toward the end of Howard's term?

@nupthatisit If you were intelligent enough to realise that the Interest rates fell once Fraser was finished his term. Yes it was 22 per cent under Fraser/Howard but the key thing to remember is that it was inherited, that is labor got voted out but handed Fraser that rate. That team actually lowered rates to under 15 per cent so a -7 per cent interest rate in 3 years is more than labor could ever do!

Do your research before you post mate, and you'll find that the interest rates shown in the commercial are true, and peaked at levels as shown in the commercial. Whitlam, Hawke and Keating are bogans and so are you. Go Liberal!

umm GO FUCKYOURSELF Libs. it was made VERY CLEAR the lastweek by the RBA that Interest Rates will NOT IN ANYWAY be shaped or governd by any political party. The rates will climb or drop base on what the RBA chooses to do and NOT the LIB Liars who tried to use it for political spin. I'm telling EVERYONE what liars you are, and exposing that other idiot HOCKEY and his stupidity. This is how I managed to get EVERYONE at my work to vote Lab last time. Your making it so easy to do it again. COWARDS!
