I am still amazed when I look at the quality this video! Watch it in HQ. Unaltered only trimmed and a title and sound added. Mounted on a tripod, controls set to HQ, 16X9, Spot Focus and at times Manual Exposure. The same Bees as in Busy Bees 2 Canon HV20 in HD. Later in the season so the light is filtered through the leaves and the tree trunk has been burned and the tube deformed by the heat. I was able to get that abstract background I am always after in the last shot.

  • Excuse me sir but are you sure this video comes from a Sony DCR-SX40?

If true, let know how I can get that kind of video quality.

I have one DCR-SX40 and my story is very different from yours.

I want to know more about your techniques!

    Thanks!

  • I am sure that all the video footage used in Sony sx40 Test Busy Bees 3 cam right out of the Sony sx40. I did experiment with the output of this camera and adjust the distance to the bees and the plane of focus until I get better quality output. I waited until the sun was above and arriving in beams through thick leaves.

  • The last shot I set the camera in line with the leaves at the end of a branch a few meters away so it was out of focus with the bees in between only 40 or 50 centimeters away from the lens. If you watch Busy Bees 2 you can see the arrangement better. The SX40 is not mounted upside down as the Canon HV20 is otherwise the set up is the same for both videos.

  • does this cam have lens threads

  • it does not.

  • Low light and some shades of the color red are 2 real stumbling blocks for this camera. You can see how it handles motion by watching my test # 5. The sound was downloaded from the Free Sound Project then added to the sound tracks in editing. The camera records sound well, my location that is too loud for sound recording. Enjoy!
