I couldn't remember what was wrong with this Craftsman LTV/10 lawn tractor, so I figured I would see if I could get it to start, but quickly found out it's 10HP Briggs & Stratton engine had no compression. Just listen to it! I don't need a gauge to tell me it has no compression when it sounds like that! It was about then I remembered where it came from. We bought it for $35 at a swap meet a few years ago, drove it about 150 feet, and it abrubtly died. The motor is fixed now, it ended up being a burnt valve.

  • ive told you in an earlier post..these engines are bad for stuck Valves..

take breather of engine side spray

wd40 in and around valve tappet bases

take a needle nose pliers and gently turn

valve (twist) until it moves..i bet the engine

will fire right up..no compression equals

    NO RUN!!!

  • @OSCALETRAINGUY Yeah, this things been fixed for a long time now, it was a burnt valve. Runs pretty good now. I know what you mean about the stuck valves, I've had it happen on these B&S flatheads a lot.

  • im having troublw with tow engines i have. they both have no compression. i opened them up and all the parts look fine. what could be the deal with these engines...

  • Could be a valve problem (that's what was wrong with this one) could be a head gasket too. Sometimes it's hard to tell if a part is bad just by looking at it.

  • i have a 15 hp briggs I/C OHV and the flywheel went out .you guys wouldn't happen to have a replacement would you,i need a hood also if guys have a junker laying around.

  • Your flywheel broke? I might have one, message me with the model, type and code off the engine and I'll check my parts. Also, what kind of hood do you need?

  • Wow. Never seen an engine sideways in a tractor before.

  • Its not the fact that its a craftsman, its the fact that it probably been sitting for only you know how long on the steering problem.

  • Hey Lynol, Could possibly give me the belt lengths on that. I just got an LTV 10 with no drive belts and the model no. is missing. It has two belts. Thanks

  • "Consider this a guide on how to waste your time, Thanks for joinin' us!" hahaha I laughed my ass off at that

  • I got an old 5 hp Briggs on a water pump. I'll let it set for about 2 years at the time. Everytime I go to fire it up I have to snatch the head off and spray a little WD40 in the valves and tap them with hammer to loosen them up again. Never fails. Runs like a top though.

  • I'll buy it for 25 bucks I have a early 60's model

  • do you still have the mower

  • did you get a new steering mechinisim or how ever you spell it

  • hi my name is keven, it looks like you are an expert when it comes to lawn tractors, one question i have a crafts man lt 1000 the engine does not start, it trys to but then it goes dead, if you understand whart i mean please give a suggestion on if i should fix or not? thank you

  • haha, I hate no compression
