1850's house in Indiana- Metal detecting site

I had a chance to detect this old 1850's house in Indiana last week. Only had a few hours, but I still found two IH pennies, wheat pennies, old brass dog tag, great seal button, etc. A lot more area to be covered next trip back.

how do you approach people for permission ?? Any tips on how to ask the permission question to someone who's had bad luck with it? Do you explain your hunt technique (hole fill) or do people even care?
