Hello, this is Shane from Stanley, North Carolina, and my question is for all the candidates.

Would you support a law requiring all bills to cover only one subject, as specified in the title, and declaring any amendments or riders not relating to the subject as void under the law? Or do you think lawmakers should continue to be able to stick lots of questionable legislation and pork-barrel spending into important bills?

  • @1czelaya no you cannot "illegalize" lobbying it is protected by the first amendment.

At least that is my view on that particular topic (also I am against making cash donations anonymous for similar reasons)

wonder if Shane will smack me upside the head for this remark :p

  • I've already heard the opposition to your question. The government, the world, and the economy is far too complex to allow for policy like the one you're advocating. It would stop the cogs of government. Which I find to be a poor rebuttal.

We pay congress way too much as is. Curtailing the amount of bills, laws, and amendments-means curtailing spending and the number of laws that decrease our liberties, and only serve special interest.

Another good question would be to illegalize lobbying.

  • If they allow riders, then they need to give the president Line Item Veto powers.

  • damn fine idea.

  • That is a great question. Ridder amendments have got to be the biggest pain in the ass.

  • Both of your questions are great.
