This is just me again and my trusty 1980 custom les paul doing some simple jammin to go through the sounds in no particular order. The audio from the camcorder is allright so if you listen with ok earphones you should get a desent impression of how it sounds at moderate leves. I briefly tested it at about volume 8 and it nearly took my head off so I'll leave that to someone else.
My conclusion is, and I've played alot of amps from vox to matchless and marshalls, this is right up there with the best. DOesnt have the highest harmonics of a matchless, but the body of the sound is really rich and resonates well. I would bet good money in saying that this is a amp you can really work tones with at stage volume, I just didn't have the opportunity to test it. But then again its a tube amp so its kind of expected, the speakers and the combo cabinet is well matched and gives a proper thud in riffing which the camera doesnt catch.
Watch the last bit of the video to se just how simple the layout of the circutry is, all the amercan amps look pretty much like this so I guess alot comes down to how the circuit is balanced in feedback.

All in all I just hope that the video can give anyone interested an impression of how this amp sounds, at least with this particular type of guitar. I think the amp is made ca 1995

  • LOL the stuff you play from 0:33 to 0:57 is exactly the same as what I always play when testing an amp!

  • @Dutchieboy20 Its good to have a few riffs you know well so that you can try and remember how it sounds on different equipment. That riff is stolen from "the silent man" by dream theater off of Images and Words. The les paul has very good dynamics and the output is medium so it gave a good result I think, I wish the amp was mine. I was servicing it for a guy a work with. Great amp.

  • how loud do you have to get this thing for it to start breaking up like you had it at the beginning of the video? i want something that can handle small clubs and bars but will still sound good at bedroom levels.

  • @ShortStack2091 you know I really didnt have it very cranked at all but it sure does sound good at bedrom levels. I would though rather recommend a mesa bogie mark 5, thats the pro amp thats got EVERYTHING. The only bad thing about it is that it costs the same as a small car! This ampeg is good but its primitive.

  • Its more beafy than a ac30 but very similar because of the design

  • its sounds a bit like a silvertone

  • Play this same amp, getten ready to give it new tubes for Christmas, it has the originals. Also have a 1966 Reverberocket II and a 50 watt RH50 head which is the same amp as the 212R.

Ampeg Tube amps are amazing tone monsters!

    LOVE THEM ALL!

    Thanks for posting

  • Really nice amp, I've a JCM 800 4104 mid 80s 2x12, would much rather this

  • @merqury5 thanks man. yeah i've looked at some of mesa's combo amps and i really like them but like you said they're ridiculously expensive. the reverberocket might be simple but i think it'll do me just fine. as far as tone goes it doesn't get much better than this

  • @merqury5 Did not know it was Dream Theater. Nice tone and dynamics is what I'm looking for, maybe this kind of amp is for me, then!
