@Stevedup hi. i come from azores but living in france.in fact, its not poisonous when they're dead but it changes the flavour.means its grosse to eat dead.

Does anybody know why lapas are eaten alive? My wife is of Portuguese descent, and her relatives told her that if a person eats lapas when they (the lapas) are dead, their bodies become poisonous. Is this a scientific fact, or a Portuguese urban legend?

Yes they are eaten alive mostly that's how I remember my mom eating them when I was a kid in Sao miguel
