The MG midget was designed as a very small, quirky British sports car and was based on the Austin-Healey Sprite, another classic British roadster, however the Austin is a pre WW2 car. Released in 1961 the Mk1 Midget used a 948cc, a-Series engine that produced 46hp. A year later capacity was increased to 1098cc with power rising to 56hp. Front disc brakes were also added in place of the previous all round drums, to handle the increase in power. Equipment on the Midget was extremely limited, as MG intended the car to be an entry level sports car. The Midget has always been warmly welcomed both by dealers and the reviewing press. This orange on black MG is no exception. The body appears to be in good condition and the paint is patina to the era as well as the interior. With only 52,005 miles and good glass all around this is a nice daily driver. The MG Midget 1500 was released in '74 to meet with U.S federal regulations. Changes included large rubber bumpers which are satin black and in very good condition, increased ride height, the 1493cc engine from the Triumph Spitfire using a Morris Marina gearbox.

Anyone wishing to buy an MG Midget, of any derivative, will these days find it extremely easy to acquire parts and accessories since the car is well served by owners clubs and enthusiast groups. Due to the cars origins as the Austin-Healey Sprite, both these cars are often given the generic name 'Spridget'. Since the cars were rather under-developed by manufacturers, Spridgets are popular for performance tuning. Priced right this is a great opportunity to own that MG you always wanted. A little care will make this a sporty little ride
