"Acrobatic Swan Lake" performed by the Guangzhou Acrobatics Troupe, is directed and choreographed by Zhao Ming, a former ballet dancer who studied modern dance in New York in 1984 and was a principal dancer with the Hong Kong Ballet from 1993 to '95. • Wonderful acrobatics, contortionistc tricks, faith in your partner and balance. No ballet in this production as it is circus at its absolute best. Notice she can hardly walk in her shoes as they are so reinforced to hold her up, and the swans can't even run on in time and with the same lead leg. At least they have finally stopped marketing this (not a new production, they tour it as often as possible) as proper ballet, which it is not BUT still very special in its own right.

  • The Guangzhou Ballet is performing in Toronto on October 18, 2011 at the Sony Centre.

  • the performance is one of the most beautiful i have ever seen. i absolutely love classical ballet. the combination of ballet and acrobatics is a beautiful marriage. i am not ashamed to say i am at times moved to tears because this performance is so beautiful. bravo to the nth power!
