@newerest1 Serious martial artists shouldn't take themselves so seriously, it is and always has been a form of theater and dance. All martial arts "work," all houses have roofs. Can we move on?

Something I've noticed about kung fu guys is that they always have 100's of epic war like fights, but never anything on video. "competition isn't real" rofl

@newerest1 A fight with rules is either a performance (a form of theater), a duel (a conflict over honor), or a game (a form of education and social lubrication). Traditional Kung fu was the basic training for the many styles of Chinese physical theater. It was also used under strict rules to settle conflicts of honor. And it was taught to children, especial Buddhist orphans, so that they would some chance of fighting off kidnappers and surprise attacks. Street cred? I think so.

@ogscott Why do I have the feeling it is "too deadly to spar"
newerest1 5 months ago
@newerest1 Don't be silly. Your logic is circular. Sparring by definition can't be deadly. You can't spar on the edge of a roof, or in a room with hard and sharp surfaces. If someone's main purpose was teaching children to defend themselves from evil adults, it would be criminal to teach them sparring.

@newerest1 I don't know if you are even interested in martial arts or not, but I suggest you sign up for some ballet lessons.
