  • I was born in 1965 and this year I am just seeing film noir movies for the first time! they are quite artistic and powerful...( I'm sick to death of current hollywood trendy remake trash...i have had it with them!) so I'm going to view about 100+ movies from 1940s-1950s!...

  • @hauntedscarecrowmurd The 1940s are a particularly great decade for movies. I totally agree about the abysmally bad quality of all current Hollywood trendy remake trash. There are some good movies being made, but they aren't playing in most theaters in this country. I'm jealous of your prior inexperience with film noir movies, as you have a lot of fun ahead of you. Have you seen _Detour_ yet?

  • I remember when you showed this in class. It might sound strange, but when I learned there was a term for this sort of shot, I began noticing it more and appreciating directors who utilized it. Total eye-opener.

  • Got any recommendations for long takes I should post? I'm about to add Touch of Evil.

  • I really liked the long take from the beginning of Snake Eyes. Other than that, nothing comes to mind right away.

  • I'll add that one next. Good example. Thanks.

  • Classic scene. Just classic. There is a lot of camera work in this movie that is just groundbreaking...handheld scenes in the woods where you'd swear the cameraman used a Steadicam but no, he was an ex WWII combat cameraman who learned to keep his hands steady the old fashioned way.

  • 3:03 "Look behind us now, would you? Is there anything in back of us?"

"Yeah, a there's a guy with a camera in the back seat."

  • What's remarkable is that the nice realism of this take is a sign of its low budget. The producers couldn't afford rear-screen projection for the driving scene, so they just used a small, hand-held camera in the back seat. It ends up looking like Rossellini. Funny...

  • Thank you for this educational experience. If I ever decide to rob a bank, I'm going to try to do it in a single long take.

  • (i mainly watch 1000s of sci-fi movies) the only film noir titles I have seen ...body heat (1981)...this gun for hire (alan ladd veronica lake) d.o.a....no I have never detour yet...i intend to search youtube I have reference books with about 300 movie titles...yay! thanks for posting!

  • WOW and double wow! One of the greatest long takes in any movie, much less film noir. This shot proves what a master the director (Joseph H Lewis) was of visuals. He was able to do so much on his often small budgets. One of my FAVORITE movies of all time! Peggy Cummins is SO hot! Hubba hubba! And John Dall was a very underated actor. THANKS for sharing this! Hope you have a VERY happy new year!!!
