Momento is a video about migration and adaptation. It is also about internal conflict viewed through the struggle of everyday events in nature. The birds were filmed in Rome, Italy. Everyday in the fall of '06 countless flocks of sparrows joined together and spent the 2 hours before sunset in the parking lot of the main train station exhibiting themsleves in extroardinary flight patterns. As a painter spending time away from home without a studio I made the computer my main source for creative output. It wasn't easy for me to work withing the limitations of the machine. While listening to music and experimenting with sound I would look at the graphics of window media player and other similiar programs for hours at a time thinking I wanted to alter their meaning. When I saw the birds flying outside the window of my room in the center of Rome I made a connection. I wanted to exhibit nature and technology into a hypnotic dance. I created a soundtrack that generated a design pattern on windows media player. I filmed the pattern and began editing it with footage of the birds. This is my most recent edited verison completed in '08. Howerer this project is ongoing and will spwan new versions. I keep re-editing it and thinking about new ways to display this footage, possibly one day interacting on multiple screens. I titled it "momento" because it bacame about a continuos moment, an endless ciclical experience.
