I suggest chopping everything first, removing chicken skin, and get your spices together.

  • This recipe works great! I pretty much followed it to the letter but with a few alterations.....1) I used two chicken thighs and 2 turkey thighs, 2) I didn't use any green onions or file powder, 3) I added about two pounds of crawfish overnighted from New Orleans at the very end and 4) I let it simmer for about and hour more than specified here. The final product was EXCELLENT! Good food takes time and I'm glad I was patient!

  • @knight7se7en sounds great! And yes, good food does take time but its oh so worth it

  • Good start; you know the basic principles of doing a gumbo, mainly the roux. Except you add the file' and all the chopped seasonings to the stock when you first put it in and cook with the the sausage to start. Then add the chicken. But may I suggest peeled shrimp, or crawfish? Gumbo crabs? But you put shrimp and crawfish in last. They shouldn't cook as long as everything else, 1/2 hour is all that is really needed to cook. Could even add in some okra. But still very nice. You GEAUX girl!

  • you did an okay job you might wanna put a lil more oil in your roux next time so it wont be as pasty as it was in this video...my momma is from the N.O. and i been cookin gumbo for over 14yrs now...video comin soon...but nice work.

  • looks good, but u really can't call it gumbo. why? because there's no okra in it. gumbo is the african word for okra

  • @jjmaker You right. That's all that is soup .

  • I make a turkey and sausage gumbo but I use smoked beef sausage from a local meat market that makes their own. I make it with the left over turkey from Thanksgiving and Christmas. You can find it on Recipesource . com.

  • Bravo!
