Trooper Garren was acquitted. 10-03-08

GREENVILLE, S.C. — A white South Carolina trooper has been acquitted of violating the civil rights of a black man who was struck by the officer's cruiser.

I do not agree with verdict, but at least he was brought to trial. Maybe he and others (LEO) have learned something from this and scared a few from using excessive force.

This stupid ass south carolina state trooper trial either started today or sometime this week. He is actually trying to fight the case but the dash cam caught it all, from video to audio. Im not saying the criminal was right for running, but the cop had no right to use his car and then brag to other officers afterward like he just shot a 10 point buck. Welcome to south carolina, if you come to visit watch your ass!

i am surprised at the level of stupidity. not from a sc state trooper, that's a given. i'm surprised by the stupid comments by some of you who keep insisting that what this a**hole cop did was justified.

criminals run. its what they do. you think he's gonna sit on the sidewalk and wait to be picked up? we have procedures!

I agree with some of your observations of some of the posts. But calling people names and stating that "level of stupidity. not from a sc state trooper, that's a given" is not conductive to a "civilized society" or discourse. That type of talk only makes this type of behavior seem justified, because people them assume the "them and us mentality".

I'm not attacking you obviously you can't see my statement for what it is. I was simply suggesting that before you begin to defend someone you find out the whole story, that's all, and if you even bothered to pay attention I actually agreed with you. Police should enforce the law, but within the rules. You are the one who made attacks>>> "when all else fails pull out the race card". This may actually be a true case of a police officers actions being racially motivated and should be reported.

IRISHWOMAN you should do your research...The reason the video is contreversial is because the same police department is in other videos using racial slurs while in pursuit of a black man. No one is saying the police shouldn't go full force on criminals, but if the intensity of your pursuit seems racially motivated then it brings about suspicions regarding the officers intentions. If they don't want to look bad then all they have to do is follow the rules....then no one could say shit.

i'm with you man it's total bull shit that cops can get agay with shit like this all the time. however, living in a small town, a person can become very immune to it. it happens all the time and like i said it's bull shit. cops like that need to get shot in the foot where it hurts more. bastard. it also goes for every state. i guess SC hi-po's need to learn how to turn off their camera. i'm surprised that's not part of their training.
