Amanda Lear - "Copacabana"

Amanda's interpretation of Barry Manilow's 70's hit "Copacabana". This performance comes from a concert "Diskoteka 80", dedicated to 80's music. It was held in Moscow on 24th of November 2006.

Amanda's cover was released on her 2005 compilation "Forever Glam!", it was also issued as a single to promote this CD.

 Eurocheese at its smelliest. This is why she is still unknown in the USA. This she-male, with her chain-smoking voice barely even sings, she only half sings and mostly speaks her way through her Euro "hits". Today they would use Auto-Tune on her voice to mask the fact she can't sing, back then, they used a highly polished music arrangements to mask the fact she can't carry a note. Still, the Europeans eat this shit up like it was caviar. We in the USA sure didn't miss anything with this thing.

@GINGERALER there is something cheesy about it, for sure, but she is a character who tried to present all kinds of elements of the counter-culture (gay style, nightclubbing) to a general public in a way to eliminate all the factors that might scare away a general public. In this way, I think she allowed a space for some kind of alternative into the houses of the average French or Italian family. It was very cool and her voice is unique. Her music choises were not ace, but that was the point too!
