I know english is the official language, but i doubt these oaths were taken in english.

at times it's better to interpret history literally, without conforming it to suit our modern times.

I recommend that you watch the movie "CITY OF GOD" Which was shot in brazil. It's in portuguese and the brazilian creole with sub texts but it went on to win win numerous awards in the english speaking world.

There's a level of authenticity that is removed from this film once it's translated to english.

The point was brought up several times after the film was made. The story was made entirely in collaboration with the actors many of whom are decedents of Mau Mau fighters. We jointly decided on English for accessibility and universality.I'm a big fan of City of God. In Brazil, they only speak Portuguese. In Kenya it's difficult tribal languages would denote something for just one tribe while Swahili is not universal nor is English. The issue of language is more complex in Kenya

language is so wrapped up in tribal identity in Kenya while in somewhere like Tanzania everyone speaks Swahili...in Kenya these issues have still not been resolved since the Mau Mau period. And unfortunately lately we have seen some of the results of this in the post-election situation in Kenya.

How about the fact, children are commonly raped in Kenya because the residents believe that sex with a virgin will cure aids.. Funny thing about facts, if you pick and choose only a few to present, you never show the whole picture.
