* I re-uploaded the mp3 so there are new working links below *

The official release is speeded up and john's voice is ruined and sounds more like "alvin and the chipmunks" or the bee gees than him. that's why if you want to really know the song as it actually sounds, you must listen to it at its original pitch.
The problem is that the usual way of lowering the pitch, is slowing down the song, and in fact,
I did that for my other vid of it, BUT... it's very slow compared to the final more "poppy" speed.
I don't care, I prefer the slower one myself, but the fact that other people think it loses a bit of efectiveness,
made me think "what if I can get it to keep both the original pitch and the final speed?".
I've heard that the producers speeded up the song in order to make it more "commercial" or more "pop",
(wich I find insulting to the music), but my point was "I bet they could have done it without ruining john's voice",
and now I'm sure:

IF I COULD MANAGE TO SPEED IT UP WHILE KEEPING THE PITCH SO JOHN'S VOICE DOESN'T GET RUINED,
USING ONLY A HOME PC AND THE REGULAR ANTHOLOGY 2 CD AS THE SOURCE,
THEY COULD HAVE DONE IT BETTER IN A STUDIO!!!.
THEY HAD PROFFESIONAL EQUIPMENT AND THE MASTER TAPES,SO THERE IS NO EXCUSE!!!.

Since the speed of this version is the same as the official one, it was easier to sync it with the video,
(compared with the editing hell that would be trying to sync the slow version with the video),
so this time I could do a proper clip of the song instead of just a pic and the audio track like I did for the slow version.
I took the original video clip and replaced the audio,
while trying to keep the sync so the "non-abstract" scenes (when what happens on screen should match what
happens in the song), look right.
I mean stuff like when john says "go", when george does some guitar notes, when ringo plays the drums, when paul says "but in my heart I wanted more", and so on.

Anyway, this is an attempt to spread this so people can listen to this wonderful song as it should have been released officially, like "free as a bird" was: at the original pitch of the demo, keeping john's voice, and this time,
keeping the final speed too!.
(shame on you producers for ruining this song!,
see the kind of stuff you forced us the fans to do in order to
listen to it properly?!).

So, enjoy this great song!!.

ps: here's the good quality mp3:

http://www.badongo.com/file/24281202

ps2: there was some loss of quality, and the song sounds a bit more "far" than the official mix or even the slow version, but it was impossible to do this without losing
some quality, and the different sound of the mix is a byproduct of the
"speeding up without losing the pitch" process.

  • I find this song and Free As a Bird kind of creepy... I think it's because they were both produced after John's death. I don't know, just sends chills through my whole body. Great song though

  • @ezzer12 free as a bird sounds haunting, john's voice actually sounds as if he's singing from "another dimension" or something like that. not in a scary way, and we know it's a recording, but it sends chills for sure.

"now and then" is another very haunting song, and that one sounds really sad, the piano sound and the melody are great. they worked on it in 1995 for the anthology but they never released it. the ones floating around youtube claiming to be the beatles early mix, are fake.

  • really cool job on the editing. thanks for posting!

  • @oo1ooo1oo ok.

  • @kainthevampireduck

That was me man editing the post, no evil conspiracy I'm afraid...

  • @kainthevampireduck it sounds a lot better, I wish yoko gave that track to them, and the raw sound of the backing tack sounds a lot more beatlish than the overproduced "traveling wilburies-esque" sound made by jeff lynn.

  • @oo1ooo1oo uh..I didn't remove or hide your comments, in fact, I don't know why youtube removed one and hid the other. I find them interesting, besides, it's not my policy to censor or remove comments, I respect opinions and what you say is very interesting!.

I clicked on "not spam" just in case, maybe the comment will be unhidden.

also, there is a video of the backing track without john's track on youtube, and guess what, somebody overdubber the lennon anthology take on it!

  • What it sounds like at this speed is a John Lennon song + backing and much less a Beatles song. Also makes me think it was sped up first and then worked on. Shame really. Best way to hear Real Love is to rip the 6 tracks from the 5.1 mix on the DVD and do an OOPS on channels 1&2 and 5&6: you get almost everything minus the Lennon cassette. Great harmonies revealed.

  • @kainthevampireduck oh i thought they did the same for free as a bird i didn't know sorry for the miscarriage
