Calzaghe beat Kessler when he was 30, Lacy when he was 26, Hopkins when he was 43 (And at the time Calzaghe was 37, so he wasn't exactly young) and Roy Jones Jr. when he was 39 (And Calzaghe was 37, so there's nothing in age difference in that fight) And he beat them all. Hopkins (Since his Calzaghe defeat) he went on to beat Pavlik, Roy Jones Jr. and is due to fight Pascal soon. So his age wasn't an issue. Stop hating on Calzaghe, he's a legend. End of story.

End of the day Calzaghe beat 45 guys in a row. Regardless of who he boxed he beat them all. Dirrels talking down to Joe but Dirrel aint done shit, ran from froch and faked it against Abraham. Shows alot about his character considering he was winning the fight! He lacks the tools to be a true champ. BIG TIME!

And considering his winning style was based on his well retained full fitness, he was close to his peak when he fought Jones, but Jones, based on lost speed, was well shot.

Consider if you reversed ages , Joe is 40 or 42, and Bernard is 35 and fit enough to outbox Joe for 12 rounds, not just 6, or Jones is pre-weight gain early 30s. Anyone with any sense would give the victories in Hopkins and Roy.

I'm actually not sure Calzaghe would beat Andre. Ward wrecked Froch and the rest of the Supersix (ie the best SMs in the world) whereas Joe Calzaghe only fought 2nd rate fighters for all his defences bar Kessler. I reckon Andre is the reason Joe retired, ehs a smart guy and has always made sure his opponents are too old or weak for him.

But credit for keeping it going 10 years, that requires a hell fo a lot of dedication.

Calzaghe beat Kessler pretty convincingly, and Hopkins' recent win over Pascal shows that age doesn't mean jack shit. Why didn't Calzaghe fight Roy Jones earlier? Because Jones didn't think he was worth it. Until he fought Kessler Calzaghe was just the WBO champion at super-middleweight and Jones was a ring legend. Calzaghe was an awesome fighter and it's too bad he wasn't born a bit later so he could have been in the Super Six and knocked this guy out.

Joe was a good fighter but the only guy he beat was lacy. He beat a jones who was way past his prime(jones knocked him down). Joe shoeshined a victory over Hopkins( he was also dropped in that fight, Hopkins landed the better punches). You guys talking about heart? Why did it take Joe so long to come to the states?
