"The Doughnuts" (1963)
part 1 of 3
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387181/

Homer's wacky gambling addict Uncle Ulysses leaves Homer in charge of a brand-spankin' new doughnut-making machine (or, more ominously, "labor-saving device") in what we're repeatedly assured is an "up-and-coming lunchroom." Yes, it seems Uncle Ulysses can conceive of no harm that could possibly come from leaving an untested piece of machinery filled with piping hot oil in the hands of a pre-teen. Unfortunately, Homer is manipulated by townies into making a few thousands doughnuts too many. The only thing ensues that possibly could, and that thing is hijinks.

  • Even as a kid of the '90s, this was one of my favorite books.

  • Cot Damn!

I saw this in elementary school in at least a couple of grades.

They still showed us this in public school up through the 80's.

I know I saw it for the first time in '89.

Thank you so much for posting this, I haven't seen it in 20+ years and my memory of it is so vivid.

  • ' LOVED iT <3 !

  • Arguably the best movie in the history of short stories. Beth Sanford is phenomenal! Her grammar and punctuational skills are bar none. Her announcing of her lines are un paralleled. 2 thumbs up, the best performance Sanfords had in her career.

  • So nice of Anne Sexton to stop by and make donuts...

  • @jityr2

"Winter of the Witch". It's here on youtube.

  • @PalePrudence Holy shit! I can top that. I haven't seen this since the 1st grade . . .1973!

  • Last time i saw this, our family was camping out at KOA campground and in the evening they gathered all the kids into a community room and showed us this film as we sat in folding metal chairs, The adults got to have a little time to themselves. Must have been about 1970.

  • Another film we've probably all seen a few times in elementary was when a boy and his mom move out to the country and they meet a friendly witch who cooks blueberry pancakes. Anyone remember what that one was called?

  • I remember this from elementary school as well, and I remember the book.
