No it means "Yay" I've seen the word used over and over in contexts that it meaning "I did it" would not make sense for. It might also be used to express those words but even so "I did it" is not the literal meaning.

It really doesn't matter. Yatta is still just yatta. You can translate it any way you want that is appropriate with the context.

As am I, but I figured saying so would just cause me to come off as a liar trying to prove their self right without any evidence. Oh well.

The verb "yaru" means "to do". "Yatta" which is the past, means "did".
Quite simple.
