Funnel Cloud Miami Oklahoma April 9 2009 6:36 PM CDT

I'm usually out spotting when there is severe weather. This time there was some. Listening to the scanner I heard they had rotation sighted near Morgan's Hill - this is Southwest of where I was with friends having a fish fry.

Going outside I heard the tornado sireens sound here in Miami - in Ottawa County, Oklahoma. I looked to the Southwest and saw the target - a rope shaped funnel with rotation.

Neighbors of the friend were watching it too. I pointed out the funnel as it cycled down and continued to rotate. You can see the funnel in the video and the lightning from the hail and rain curtain near the funnel's northern side as it passed just to my south by only a few hundred yard distance but remained off the ground.

Remember I am a certified spotter with years of experience. If you are not trained in storm spotting or chasing please do not attempt to do this at home. In the forecast page near the top right you'll see the forecast office you belong to. Spotter talks are announced at each forecast office and times, dates are given. Attend these talks every year and get certified.

This was taken using my didgital camera - so it's not the best quality. But it is a good catch.

Sometime this week when I've gathered the video I'll post some neat lightning videos I have from my galleries. Not sure when so be patient. Everyone have a grate week.
