While I maintain that Joan Hickson was the best Miss Marple, I must say Julia Mackenzie's recent portrayal was excellent, far better than Geraldine Mcewan.
I think Joan Hickson played the best Miss Marple. If you read the books they match perfectly. It is worth noting that Agatha Christie herself said she wanted Hickson to play Miss Marple. I also agree with dahmersbeeatch1979, I used to find the opening titles slightly scary as a child, especially the woman in the window at around 40 seconds. However the music is just beautiful.
i really prefer geraldine mc ewan as miss marple shes more life like... for eg watch the two versions of body in the library ... joan hickinson is slow , clapping her hands and wishy washy . same story line not much of difference geraldine mc ewan does a betterjob out of it..... she comes across as someone who is miss marple and not just playing it out.
I bought the whole series on video several years ago and the way it was produced, directed and filmed was very realistic of the time. The introduction sequence and the theme music was a bit sinister but it was a view in to what was to come. Joan Hickson WAS . . Miss Marple.
I agree, Morgan - if ever I'm feeling a bit down in the dumps an evening with Joan Hickson as Miss Marple soon puts things to rights ;) According to other posters on this forum she had a wonderful sense of humour!!
