As a young child back in the early 70s, my friends and I played under this tree back before a number of the residences around it were built. For the last 7 years, this magnificent specimen of "Corymbia Citriodora" or "lemon scented gum" has provided my neighbours and I with it shade, airconditioning, and a place for many kinds of birds to come and feed, play, and share their song.
There is a season and time for everything under heaven, and on the 3rd of August 2010, the time had apparently come for this fine looking tree in its prime.
Far be it from me to stand in the way of what people choose to do with their own property that is standing on their own privately owned land ... in fact, although I may not personally agree with their decision, I defend their right to make it.
Their land, their tree, their choice !
So I have done the only thing that was fair if not proper for me to do, and that is make a recording of aspects of its last morning and day so that its unique form and the songs of some of its daily visitors might not utterly pass into forgetfulness.
At least now, wherever I am and whenever I miss the unique sounds of morning that this tree was central to, I can now revisit for a moment or two ... and you, wherever you may be in the world, can know what a dawn near the Swan River in Perth Western Australia sounds like for me.

Well said.
I always get a bit surprised when people don't recognize what an asset trees on their property are. It's totally prestigious and impressive to maintain and coexist with trees on your property. Show em off and be proud. Now what will they do with the extra space; build a small guest house, make the yard fancy?
