  • Haha, Awesome Adams quote!

Why is it actually called Occam's RAZOR?

  • I have no idea. I tend to assume it's because it either sounds really cool, or Occam was trying to slice through BS? Ya got me.

  • He was a very angry dwarf who cut people if they explained things in a way that was too contrived.

He could only ever afford one razor.

  • LOL Today, it would be "Occam's Prison Shank" or "Occam's Gunzu Knife."

  • Glad to hear it =)

  • That was a very poor example. I still do not understand the beauty behind occam razor. Is it nothing more than investigating time in the most obvious cause?

Omniprescence is not so hard to appreciate if you realize that time and space are not as real as your senses perceive them to be. But thats off topic.

  • It was the Aliens wasn't it... XD

  • what the hell are fruitty pebbles? an american thing i guess?, if your canadian fruit loots is where its at

  • I think you quote (like most people) the wrong part of Occams razor when you explain it. The main point of it is this quote """Amount the plausible explanations, the one that require the lesser amount of assumptions is more probable""

    That should be enough

  • @Sabanata99 Yes, good. The point is that the absurd is to be disregarded. But perhaps I'm taking it a step further by saying that ALL things aren't possible in ALL situations. We don't even consider the absurdly impossible things for a given situation. Only the realistically possible things need be considered in the first place.

  • @scotty That's the point of occam's razor though.... you disregard the absurd, because it has such a low probability of happening.

  • *standing ovations*!

  • I'm sorry but I tend to disagree with the idea that it IS possible that aliens came down and cleaned up. Given what we know about our world and reality it isn't possible. If aliens were discovered and they turned out to be cleanliness freaks maybe but as it is if you seriously consider aliens as a real possibility to explain the clean room you're either seriously deluded, stupid or insane. Everything or anything isn't possible under all circumstances, not if we're talking about the real world.

  • look for the video 'Jewish Cats' and you will see what fate can do.

  • @MrMaxTruth By the way, gravity is defined in terms of our observations of how it works. That you can create an infinity of different models to explain any observed phenomena does nothing to change the nature of the data to be explained by them. In particular, the debate about whether particle or wave models are better is not a debate about reality, but about the predictive merit of the models. It would just be silly to think either model is "true".
