Only in USA I heard saying "jew are religion, not the race." And never from the Israel. Probably that is becouse immigrants in America wanted to get rid of their jewish heritage and to become good WASPy americans. Yeah, Perelman is jewish and have typical yiddishe surname. There are no special jewish race, but are common ethnic and religious heritage. And if ru cabinet rats recognize people who ar not liked as jews, they should alsou recognise people with achiewments as jews.

he just didn't need the money. some money is ok, but if you have a lot you have to manage it - and then perelman would loose time analyzing idealized problems. the bigger question is: why do certain people who do not have a clue try to give prizes to other people...

Pretty sure he turned down the prize because he didn't want to be involved in academic politics, let alone the lowest kind of politics (ethnic, xenophobic) that this thread has degenerated into.
