This video was not made by me. It was made by Paul Fusco. It was hosted and produced by Magnum Photos. It is a video of the effects of the Chernobyl explosion in Ukraine. The following has been taken off of the videos bio sheet: "Twenty years have passed since the meltdown at Chernobyl. Paul Fusco faces the dark legacy of the modern technological nightmare that continues to plague those exposed to its destructive radiation." This website has the entire video and more information: http://inmotion.magnumphotos.com/essays/chernobyl.aspx

  • i cried when i first saw this on Fusco's site... the aftermath of chernobyl is without a doubt horrible. on a side note... dosborn05 when you said "so called cleanest producer of energy" i have to disagree with you. nuclear power IS a clean form of energy, it just has horrible side affects if something goes wrong...

  • I agree. It is cleanest so long as there are no problems.

  • stupid fucking russian, why those stupid peoples have nuclear power.

  • Because the Americans did and they thought the US would invade. Which is what we thought they were going to do. So I guess the real answer is fear. Which is ironic because that is what they cause.

  • I wasn't trying to go that far in depth. I was saying why would a country like the UK or France, for example, make a huge deal out of Chernobyl while at the same time be considering building a new reactor? No country that has nuclear reactors and plans to possibly build new ones will be willing to do much about Chernobyl. Doing so would draw attention to it and probably cause the public to demand that their respective government not build a new reactor and find ways to close the current ones.

  • Excellent. According to the Chernobyl Forum, an international organisation of scientific bodies including a number of UN agencies, deaths directly attributable to radiation from Chernobyl currently stand at 56 - less than the weekly death toll on Britain's roads.

The Chernobyl Forum obviously has its own agenda. Governments now see Nuclear Power as the only "sane" alternative for the coming energy crisis. Well that's real insanity for you.

  • Unfortunately, no major government will confront the problems from Chernobyl until something 'better' than nuclear power is found. Why would they want to cause a panic over the so called cleanest producer of energy?

  • America had a raggety reactor that would have caused the same amount of devastation. It was on Three Mile Island. We're that close.

  • @alamidblackcat Probably from the pregnancies, you have to understand the radiation damages your dna. So when the dna out of wich you make a baby is damaged you get a miscarriage or a deformed child. You cant get deformed if you receive a dose of radiation.

  • were these conditions from pregnancies that got affected or just strictly from the chemicals?

  • @dosborn05 they build a nuclear reactor for a cheap source of energy and did not take care of it because and the reactor blew, you are thinking of a nuclear bomb an not a reactor, and its the other way around

  • All this pain from an unauthorized experiment...

  • An entire city, devastated. It makes me feel horrible. so many people died.

  • every country does NOT have nuclear technology, at least not enough of it to produce weapons out of it.

  • those bombs weren't nuclear at Hiroshima, they were atomic, big difference.

  • Because if done properly, Nuclear power is the safest and cleanest power in the world, but if done too hastily as the Chernobyl reactor had been done, then the mutations radiation causes is the most destructive thing in the world, you just have to remember that no matter where they put the Chernobyl NPP the radiation would still have spread over Europe and knowing that should mean you take all the care in the world to build your plants safer and better then before

  • i just don't understand why shall a big country keep the nuclear reactor near the residents why don't they just build it in the desert away form the city its that simple.
