So speaking of Rod Marsh not being Captain. I seem to remember hearing something about having to do with a Playboy interview. Having never read it was it something he said in it or was it simply because it was Playboy?

Golden Boy by Christian Ryan. Great book. In an ideal world Kim would of either knocked it back or the board wouldn't have given it to him. Rod Marsh would of made a fantastic captain. Kim was just one of those guys who couldn't read people.

Wasn't that the 1978-79 Ashes before Channel 9 took over ?

The predecessor to Steve Waugh's slog-sweep.

True to a point garygarybeers, but having just read the book about him by Christian Ryan, I can't help but feel that Kim was his own worst enemy. The guy was too ambitious for his own good, gunning for the captaincy when Rod Marsh should have been the man. Many felt Kim hadn't earned the right, even though they recognised his talent. Had he just focused on batting and had Ponting's thirst for runs, Kim would have been a legend - up there with the Chappells, Border, Waugh, and Ponting.

Favorite batsmen of the 80's.... poor bugger had to put up with soo much bullshit from Lillee, the Chappell's and Marsh. Which is a shame really.... jealus pricks!
A sweet shot from one of the most talented and maligned Australian batsmen.
