This is our universe.

Our best estimates put it at some 78 billion light years across.

Within this vast space there are 100s of billions galaxies, each with billions of stars.

Many of these stars have planets orbiting them.

Out of all these stars, we know of at least 1 that has 9 such planets.

The third planet from this star is the one we call home - Earth.

Much of the Earth is molten rock of up to 7,000 degrees in temperature, but it cools near the surface forming a solid crust.

The crust forms large plates which collide with each other, in turn causing volcanos and earthquakes.

70.8% of the planet's surface is covered by water, so we can't live there.

Occasionally the water is forced onto the land area by seismic events or storms, devastating coastal areas.

The land area comprises 29.2% of the surface, but not all of it is inhabitable.

Some areas are too cold and icy winds blow across the frozen landscape.

Some areas too hot and the plants on which we depend struggle to survive.

Some are too high and the air is too thin to hold the oxygen we need to breath.

Some are arid and the soil infertile, making it difficult to eek out a living.

Some are to rugged or treacherous, making movement difficult.

Some are covered in swamps or thick forests.

Out of all this space, we can only survive in the smallest of fractions.

Choosing some random place in the universe to visit would almost certainly mean instant death.

If we confine ourselves to a sphere no bigger than the Earth our chances of survival are still remote.

If we further confine ourselves to the Earth's surface we are likely to survive - at least for a short while.

It seems the universe was not built for us.

In fact, If it were conscious you might think it wanted to kill us.

Does it seem like the work of an designer to you?

Does this seem like the work of something intelligent?

Is this universe really designed for us, or are we designed for a small fraction of it?

  • hey askegg thnx for the christmas special yesterday it was fun.

i already wondered about your videos .

so i decided to check them out .

    nice videos man

    i especially like this 1

im a sucker for universe videos .

    lol

  • Glad you enjoyed the show. I have never done anything like that before and it was a lot of fun. Might do something like that again in the future.

Glad you enjoyed the video :)

  • we swore the earth was flat because all the evidence was there to prove it, man is so small and insignificant that no matter where you go on Earth the slight curve that makes it a sphere is SOO insignifcant that it appears to flat no matter where you go, even in Antarctica the "bottom" of the world you dont appear to be standing upside-down on some kind of floor-ceiling fusion

  • True - it's one of those cases where the truth is totally counter intuitive.

Still, how would the Earth have looked if it was a sphere? Pretty much exactly as it does if it were flat. It took someone to test the two options to arrive at the disturbing truth.

  • so you believe that man, who swore the earth was flat... can explain how all the planets and galaxies got here. all the these places he cant reach and cant see .. but wants people to believe he knows how they got here. nothing devine, just all random acts. gotcha... . how come the big bang.. is the only thing to come from nothing? how come everything else has to come from something.. has to be created?

  • I believe no such thing. I am on the other side of the fence.

  • So God made a universe 78 billion light years across, and filled it up with 99.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% crap, created a tiny dot upon rough a fifth of whose surface we can live, and this convinces you there's an intelligent, loving creator who's allllll about us, does it?

  • Yes, because you would be ignorant to believe that all of the universe magically created itself.

  • Today's Scientists are struggling to even come up with a solid conclusion to whether there is life on Mars or not! , (that's the planet next 2 us btw.. if you didnt know).. So just imagine The vastness of our universe, it is inevitable that there is life out there.. if you cannot face the reality than you truly have no knowledge of your own existence. Peace. Salam

  • I think that we are actualy an atom, I think we are small to some beings who are bigger than us, and maby we are parts of those beings, maby we are in some organism like cells in our bodys, but we are too small ! ! !

  • @MightyMusicLion The universe does not present itself as being created at all (but it may be) However, believing that everything needs a creator means the cretor is someone's creation as well.

  • @carlawon Where did the creator come from? Science is a tool used to explained what we can persive. The big bang is only as far as we can explain today using science. In the future we may explain a little further, but only based on evidence. Even if we have to correct ourselves once in a while, science is still the best tool to help us understand our existance.

  • Nothing is designed for nothing..

  • Another interesting video ruined by music that is too loud! I have to strain my ears!
