"Beautifully disturbing...shaking the dust from the compartments long sealed and buried, thumping out the dance of the dark side which we cannot deny...though we try" Tom Simanek / tps607

I've been thinking a lot lately how being a soldier changes who you are forever.

Inspired by the book of short stories, "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien. It catalogs the variety of things his fellow soldiers in the Alpha Company brought on their missions in Vietnam. Several of these things are intangible, including guilt and fear, while others are specific physical objects, including matches, morphine, M-16 rifles, and M&Ms candy.

Music by Moby "Pale Horses"

Pale Horses is the first single by electronica singer Moby, from his ninth studio album, Wait for Me. The track features vocals by Moby's friend Amelia Zirin Brown.

The Footage is edited from the films:
Apocalypse Now
Platoon
Causulties of War
Saving Private Ryan
And a training film called Special Forces by Matt Barker

  • This very subject was on my mind and you captured the horror of the expectations our soldiers perfectly.

The life of the enlisted is drastically under appreciated.

    My heart goes out.

    Much respect.

  • I appreciate that, eva! much thanks!
