THE LIBERATION OF MANILA. 1945. For thirteen days, 17-year old Juan Alcazaren and his family, all thirteen of them, lived behind a three-foot high concrete wall, in open grounds; exposed to the daily bombardment of the American liberating forces and under the constant threat of Japanese sniper fire. With little food or water, they drew strength from each other and all miraculously survived those thirteen harrowing days. This is the story as told by Lolo Johnny to the Grade 5 students of Keys Grade school where his grandson Nikos studies.
