THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS STUDIES THAT HAVE LOOKED AT THE HEALTH RISKS OF CIGARETTE SMOKING. IN FACT THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY STUDIES LOOKING AT THE RISKS THAT JUST ABOUT EVERYONE WHO SMOKES UNDERSTANDS THAT THEY ARE ARE PUTTING THEMSELVES AT RISK FOR PROBLEMS LIKE EMPHYSEMA, LUNG CANCER AND EVEN HEART DISEASE.
"ASK ANY CARDIOLOGIST WHAT HE OR SHE CONSIDERS THE GREATEST RISK FACTOR FOR HEART DISEASE AND HE OR SHE WILL SAY SMOKING CIGARETTES. IT IS QUITE SIMPLE. CIGARETTE SMOKING CAN HELP LEAD TO CLOGGED BLOOD VESSELS AND WHEN THESE CLOGGED BLOOD VESSELS SUPPLY THE HEART IT CAN LEAD TO A HEART ATTACK. "
THESE PEOPLE ARE GETTING SOME EXERCISE...A GREAT IDEA IF YOU WANT TO REDUCE YOUR CHANCES OF HEART DISEASE. WE DIDN'T ASK THEM IF THEY SMOKE CIGARETTES. PEOPLE DON'T LIKE TO BE BOTHERED WHEN THEY EXERCISE AND THEY CERTAINLY DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT WHETHER THEY SMOKE. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE COMBINATION OF EXERCISE AND CIGARETTES....ARE SMOKERS PLAYING RUSSIAN ROULETTE WHEN THEY START THAT JOG?
IT IS ALL A MATTER OF TIMING. IF YOU HAVE BEEN A SMOKER FOR YEARS AND WANT TO START AN EXERCISE PROGRAM YOU CAN DO IT, BUT UNDERSTAND YOU NEED A CAREFUL WORKUP WITH AN EKG AND PROBABLY A STRESS TEST.IF YOU ARE CLEARED IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO START SLOWLY AND KICK THE HABIT. IF YOU ARE YOUNG AND ONLY STRTED SMOKING RELATIVELY RECENTLY YOU'VE GOT TIME...BUT THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM IS CUTTING BACK ON CIGARETTES."
THOSE WORKOUTS WILL MAKE UP FOR SMOKING THEY CAN'T OUTRUN THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THOSE CIGARETTES. I'M DR BRIAN MCDONOUGH.
So, I carved out a nice plan to quit smoking gradually and when i get over it, I will start working out. I've cut down cigs on a weekly basis, one cig a week. It's been a long, hellish and disturbing 4 months. Now, I smoke 10 a day vs 22. My humble advice: Don't mix smoking with work out. It's stressful, no matter what the docs say.

I've been a smoker for 4 years and i tried inducing exercise of 20 mins a day in my daily routine. In the beginning i felt great as i was always a fanatic of working out in gym. Later, I started to feel uneasy and i had a feeling of confusions and dullness. Eventually, I started to lose hair as the stress of smoking and exercise took over, I couldn't stop smoking so i gave up on exercise. I discovered first hand that exercise and smoking don't go together.....
