  • People often critize the Anglo-American relationship, the fact is both the USA and the UK are both the best in the world at building weapons, ships, and aircraft (BAe systems build lots of American Equipment, and Rolls Royce build all of the UK's aircraft and most of the engines for the worlds commercial aircraft) so wheres the harm? and besides, the Italian navy is using French built FREMM frigates, as is the Greek Navy are they blindly following the French? or are they just sensible..

  • No Canada did not go to Iraq, they went to Afghanistan.

  • TowerHamletsNeil is right, i don't understand why people feel it necessary to compare different nations armaments, every nation has different needs so stop comparing different things

  • Hmm I might be wrong, but it would not surprise me if the radar system is exported.

  • SAMPSON is made BAE Systems Integrated System Technologies. What would a small navy like Holland want with such a sophisticated system?

You're confusing it with the stock standard S1850M radar(all ships have this) that is based on Thales Nederland SMART-L radar.

    There's a HUGE difference! 100s of millions of pounds anyway ; )

  • You do realise the Sampson radar is based on Dutch radar??? We don't have a choice in the matter as to whether it's sold to anyone else.

  • Nah, they're going to protect the new carriers. Besides Britain wouldn't sell the Sampson radar to anyone, and that is half of the ships cost. So selling them would be pointless.

  • nice looking ship, I wonder if its going to go the same route as the type 23, just as all the equipment finally gets set up/installed/upgraded and working the sell them :(

  • sweet ship

im glad to see NATO countries building / upgrading new navies. I can't wait to see this ship sailing with canada's upcoming modernized City (Halifax) Frigate, and the new Province (Ontario) Destroyers which will both use APAR and ESSM for city, SM3?? for province? FINALLY some nice ships for the Royal Navy and Royal Canadian Navy. i wish you could stop blindly following USA.

  • She's looking good! Never managed to get to see her leave, but I see her lying at anchor downriver today. Fine ship, looking forward to the others which will follow, too.
