Actually, Counting Crows is one of the more authentic bands out there. This particular performance isn't one of my favorites, but check out any of their live stuff (including their live DVD of "August and Everything After", which you can find on YouTube) and you'll see that they put a lot of heart into their performances. By contrast, most music today (Black Eyed Peas, I'm looking at *you*) is overproduced, corporate crap.

@Freethinker12341 Counting Crows have no soul? Dude, you must be deaf!

Manuel was supposed to show up with Rick Danko at the Bijou theater in Philadelphia. Danko said Manuel felt ill because he ate some bad mayonaisse. Later we knew Richard had a bad drinking problem. Danko also had the same problem. He got a DUI in Woodstck years later.

I have some great respect for Adam and his passion for music and Richard Manuel who is the BEST. I have met him at a bar in Berkeley twice and he is so down to earth. Just drinking beers on a Friday night talking about how Cal would match up on Sat. in football. He's a real guy and it comes out in his music.

Thats so true. As Phil Lesh said about Bear(but also applies to richard), "His light shone like a beacon". Thanks to the Adam for giving this man the respect and remorse he deserves.
Adam loved the Band and Richard Manuel so much, and wrote this song after he read in the paper that he had committed suicide. Any true Band and Richard fan would respect the Counting Crows for expressing their pain for the loss of one of the greatest singers of all time. Don't hate!

Anyone who likes this song ought to check out "Danko/Manuel" by Drive-By Truckers: a great tribute to Rick and Richard.
