Compare the sound on both the Rickenbacker 660/12 and the Rickenbacker 360/12C63, both done at identical amp setting and volumes. I think the 660/12, while also a vintage re-issue, has a more modern, "larger" sound. This is likely due to the solid body vs. the hollow body on the C63, and also the 660/12's 12 saddle bridge which allows for perfect intonation all the way up the neck.

  • I just bought a Ric 620/12. Can't wait to get it. Hope it sounds as good as yours.Your 660 has the toasters right?

  • @MrJacklips: Yes--Toasters. I've had a 620/12, and it's a very fine guitar. If you really want it to play like a dream, send it to "the Ricken-doctor," Mark Arnquist in Seattle. He worked at Rickenbacker back in the 60's. For $500 (incl. shipping), he performs 12 different enhancements to Rickenbacker 12's which really maximize the instrument's playability. Contact Mark at arnquist at comcast dot net. No--I don't profit from referrals--he just does fabulous work. Love mine.

  • Wow you nailed the classic Ric sound on the head. There's no compressor on this? Sounds great!

  • @MrJacklips: Thanks for the compliment. Actually, I was using the compression setting on my Boss ME-50 multi effects pedal...

  • I should have also asked, how about a list of the guitars you regret getting rid off?

I just sold my Epiphone Casino (with Bigsby) today - it wasn't vintage, just a late 90's Korean version - but I'm already missing it! But I need the money to pay for a new hand-built guitar which, given your taste, I'm sure you will be interested in - I'll send you some pics when finished.

  • @Rogerbyrd: Would love to see photos of the custom build. As far as a list of guitars I regret selling, it would probably include ever guitar I've ever sold...

  • Hey Thanks. I gotta see what mine sounds like first. Might just have to buy an AC30. My wife would kill me.

  • Hi Modfather - that is a beautiful guitar and I seriously dig the old Volume/tone knobs! I do, however, prefer the both the sound and shape of the 360-12. I have a 1966 360-12 which is the 'guitar to get if there is a fire'!

I think you are right about the sound of the 660/12 - its more 'in your face' treble because of the solid body.

  • @ellioteaston93: Thanks, man. Wish I still had the guitar...

  • killier sound! great
