94 and 95 were Phish's epic period--not in the modern sense: "dude that was EPIC!" but like, the music itself is a huge power trip. I'd say 92-93 was a period of quirky intensity, and 96-98 was going ultra cerebral. But this shit is just pure power--the sound of a band that can really do anything it wants and well.

The energy of the crowd exceeded what trey could harness and hose back at you. In '94 he gathered it up like a black hole eating light then went supernova and burned a laser beam of catharsis through your skull.
Man I wish they would dive off the deep end like this these days. Don't get me wrong, it's good to have the boys back but sometimes you just gotta take a leap of phaith.
