This is a just a quick test for an explosion I am doing for a short video. The quality is set to low and no time was spent on modeling, just testing my new plugin.
I used 3DS Max and the plugin by Afterworks called FumeFX. I built a simple PArray in max and applied it to the sphere using object fragments as the particle type. Add a Gravity Binding and a POmniFlector to drop the fragments and bounce/land them on the white plane. I then applied the FumeFX Particle SRC to the PArray and tweaked the settings, which lights all the fragments up in flames and smoke. Sound was edited and added in Vegas.
