  • I made the Everest trek in early 1979. Not much has changed --- except for all those people!! When I did it we saw only a few fellow trekkers above Namche, and fewer than five made it up to KP that day. I had been out in the mountains for almost a month at that point, so I had the view at KP all to myself for over an hour before my lesser-acclimated comrades reached me. It was one of my life's peak experiences.

  • @jelink2222 I envy being there overlooking the Khumbu with no one around but your group, your thoughts and that surroundings. I had a couple of groups who were pains in the ass (Iranians and Israelies actually) that took away from the moment. At the top with 50 or more people it all seemed like a bit of a tourist attraction where you had to line up for your "classic" Kala Patter shot.

  • Namasteeee... i can here the khumbu cough...thats some climb up Kala patthar ..some of our group never made it..all that way and they gave up..lol

  • @MrNamchebazar You need to acclimatise. we took 9 days to get to 5000m.
