On Monday, October 12, 2009 a small group of nā kūpuna from the Kamake`e`āina `ohana gathered at the California Hotel in Las Vegas, NV. to talk story about members of the ohana who came before them and events in the past both within the ohana and in Hawai`i. The members of this group included Lily Kaonohiakala Padeken-Wai, Amy Kalaimi Donner-Kamake`e`āina-Thompson, Herbert "Bucky" Aina Kamake`e`āina, Sr., Pua Bryant Topics covered in this video include tutu Pahumoa (Pahumoa "John" Kamake`e`āina, Sr. (1879-1944), the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, O`ahu, Hawai`i, fishing practices, etc. The session lasted for well over an hour and was attended by a small handful of members of the `ohana. For them, this was an opportunity to sit back and listen to stories of days gone by, to gain insight into what life was like growing up for these nā kūpuna and to learn more about those in the `ohana who came before them. Each individual walked away from this experience with a new found appreciation for our nā kūpuna and most of all, our `ohana. We hope you enjoy this video and learn from the nā kūpuna who took out of their time to ensure the information they discuss is preserved and passed on to future generations.
