Here are some warnings signs with these kinds of companies:
1) Did you get an unsolicited sales call from them?

2) Do they say that they already have a renter/buyer for your timeshare? (or an established market like people attending conventions.)

3) Do they want you to pay hundreds/thousands of dollars for a title search, or transfer fees, or taxes, or a closing fee, or appraisal, UPFRONT?

4) Are they offering to rent/sell it for far more than the market value?

5) Do they want you to pay a large up front fee that supposedly you will get back?

6) Do they want your credit card number over the phone?
If you answer yes to any of these questions, then this is the usual scenario:
Once you pay the fee and receive the contract, you discover that the company has only promised to advertise your resort, not to rent/sell it, and they don't mention having a renter/buyer in the contract.

Then, you won't hear anything from them for a long time, and when you contact them, they will tell you that the renter/buyer backed out, but they will advertise your timeshare on their over-priced website.

Finally, when you try to get your money back, they will point out that you signed a contract, and it's only for advertising.

When you try to challenge it with your credit card company, they will tell you that you only had 60 days to dispute the charge, and that it's too late to do anything.
This is a bitter pill to swallow, but right now, most timeshares are selling for 0-20% of the original retail price. It's not a good time to sell a timeshare.

  • I was the sales rep that scammed your parents... a fee of $2597 for marketing and advertising to sell their property bahahahah!!!

  • @bfrosty350 then you'd know that I figured out your bank and processing used and they got refunded .. guess you didn't get paid after all.. ;c)

  • Hi Gina, I think it's nice that you have out this warning. However, I own a timeshare and I don't see how anyone could even fall for any of the things you mentioned regardless of age.

And most timeshare are not worth anything now or after you buy them. But one needs to research and be smart about what they are buying, where, and with whom. We bought ours pre-construction 5 years ago and it's actually worth the same now even with the bad real estate. It's not for everyone though. :)

  • @MissCrystalMakeup See, the thing is, most people who are falling for it are elderly/seniors who can't run a computer, or are too darned stubborn to, to be able to research, and on top of it, desperation puts you not in your right mind. Not to mention, one of the latest scammers to try my parents have an A- BBB rating, so they're getting pretty good at trying to show they're legit. Otherwise, I'm not really sure why my parents fell for it. my mom is very frugal and good with money.

  • it is never out of line to inform people about anything! -- it makes me sick how people can think to scam another !! this sounds like a night mare that will be on dateline!!!- good for you for explaining this==x shelly

  • @magicadespell56 Hey Shelly! missing you! Thanks for this! I think it may be one of those specials on nightline, soon. It's grown exponentially since the recession.

  • @ginabinawina99 You got their money back, how? Do a video on that, because I got scammed and have no idea how to get my money back.

  • Another great resource for timeshare owners and consumers... The Licensed Timeshare Resale Broker Association. LTRBA.com

  • here in spain it happenig continuasly they just change names and start again. I have spoke to people that have been done more that 10 times and scammed out of up to 90,000 pound. How people fall for it again and agin i would never know!

  • i just think most people are ignorant about timeshare!!!!!and GREEED of the buyers, is what ruins the industry. THERES NO RESALE VALUE ON TIMSHARES, DONT BE GREEDY. USE the damn thing, they are design for vacationing, thats it. ELDER people, are more greedy than what you think and thats why they are easy pray of vultures. THOSE TIMESHARE RESALERS ARE SCAMMERS, AND IF THEY ASK U FOR MONEY UP FRONT IT IS A SCAM.

  • Heres how it works in florida(SO NEVER TRUST PPL IN FLORIDA) your right about the lists, theres a billion dollar industry in fl where ppl from all over the states come to south fl for drug rehab/recovery.Theres little work that will pay enough to live on so they(meaning ppl in recovery) set up call centers all over, hire drug addicts with no morals and exploit anyone that will listen,I dont hav much space on here so simply,DO NOT TRUST ANY TIME SHARE/TIME SHARE RECOVERY.Its a lie.

  • Thanks for the info. I am so angry I got caught up in the timeshare bs and I am wanting out. I just hope I can.

  • thanks for the warning, BUT...

Did you parents get what they were promised? You weren't clear on this. Lies is what makes any company/person a scammer (not just your 5 warnings). Otherwise you're making every TS biz look bad.

If you know how much market rate is for ur parents' TS, why didnt u sell it for them? Put it up on ebay.

OR, why didnt u and ur siblings take it over like TS r supposed to work? or do u just use it for free?? (making u a scammer)

I'm just saying be clear on ur accusations

  • This is off the subject. but WOW you are hot.

  • i do that lmao
