The thing about Gaffigan is that he's a great writer, but he's not funny. Given enough time, he can come up with very funny stand-up material, but he's not one of those guys who is quick on his feet and can be really witty on a cue. Most comedians can be classified into one of those categories: quick-witted funny guys vs. good writers
