This is the Saturday Night Live Closing Theme Song (A Waltz in A), written by Howard Shore and used to end each weekly broadcast of the National Broadcasting Company's Saturday Night Live (1975) sketch comedy show, originating from Studio 8H at the NBC Television Studios in the GE Building of Rockefeller Center, New York City, created by Lorne Michaels, announced by Don Pardo.

The song is performed each show by Lenny Pickett, Katreese Barnes, Leon Pendarvis, and the Saturday Night Live Band.

This is my arrangement, produced with a KORG Triton Extreme keyboard/workstation on a whim. I was originally just going to do a solo piano track so I didn't even bother to add a click track to stabilize the tempo. After I recorded the piano I figured I might as well add all the other instruments on top. But the tempo isn't perfect, so please overlook the fluctuations. The tenor sax produced by a keyboard obviously will not compete with Pickett's work, but then again, that's not the point.

Check out my man Joe's YouTube Channel ( http://www.youtube.com/user/beechler7dk ) and our Piano & Sax version of this song here ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=487DYe_DbiE ). And stay tuned for more collaborations in the future!

Enjoy!

  • @sirnim where did you find the font I've been looking for it for ages

  • @TheRealJackassJR the SNL font is "GOTHAM ULTRA." Look around for it. ;-)

  • This was extraordinary. I almost couldn't believe it's not the SNL band doing it. However, if I could give one point of criticism I would say the sax was just a little flat. I'm not saying they weren't great but in the real version the sax clearly dominates the entire piece and their play-style was more flamboyant. In this, the keyboard pretty much does, who btw is clearly fantastic. I'm not mentioning this as a put-down because listening to this was a real treat.

  • @charlieofdenver Thanks! Well, that's how keyboard sax is. Fortunately, you're in luck, since my pal Joe added on some REAL tenor sax on top of the solo piano version of this song I recorded. Check it out... link added to this video description!

  • not the same without the audience claps to the rhythm in the begining

  • i will be on tht show my life wnt be complete without it

  • @mastershinto69 I was too young to stay up during the golden yrs 1975-1980.but I could hear it fom my bedroom sometimes.I was 7 when the show started.Mom and Dad didnt let me start watcing it til the 1982-1983 season when I was 14.At least i got to see Eddie Murphy in his funny years.

  • Dont really watch SNL much anymore now ,but when I do NBC always cuts the closing theme so local stations can show their commercials. They used to do the entire credit roll with the theme back in the days before 1995 when the show was still funny.Wish SNL could go back to the magic they had back between 1975-1995.

  • Thank you so much. Great cast. Great audience. You've been wonderful. Good night everybody! :)

Seriously man. Great job with this.

  • This is great to hear once more. Thanks for sharing.

  • i love the chords

  • Love this theme

  • OK, so the tempo wasn't perfect. It sounds more live, and I loved it. Thanks, I've been looking for a good full version of this for a while.
