One of the most deadly tsunamis ever in the Caribbean Sea Region occurred in October 11, 1918. It was a local, earthquake-related, tsunami which affected mainly the west coast of the island of Puerto Rico, and whose impact was well documented in a U.S. Congress report (Reid and Taber, 1919). Federal and local authorities are concerned about the possibility of this happening again, specially now that the coastal population has increased enormously.
