Tari Legong Kuntul part 1

The Legong Kuntul is a classical Legong dance about Kuntul birds (herons). I'm personally not too thrilled about the quality of the dancing here but there doesn't seem to be any full version of this dance on Youtube so I figure I'll upload it. Enjoy :).

elibris, you say legong kuntul is about birds, i was told (by a balinese dancer) it was a temple dance for thanking the gods. How come you say it is about birds?

The Legong has its roots as a sacred dance. I think this is what the dancer was referring to. There are many different types of Legong and this one happens to tell the story of Kuntul birds (herons). I can't post URLs but google "kuntul" and take a look at the Indonesian Wikipedia entry.

Thanks a lot for posting this. I kinda like it as well. Even it's not as frantic and dynamic like Lasem or Jobog, this one is still Legong dance and still with the same kind of marvelous legendary legong costumes; bounded with shiny gold brocade from head to toes with golden fan. So Legong. I love it.
