The magnetic thing you were holding was the handle of a screw driver with changeable tips. The tip you put in was a phillips head tip. Of course, you'll have flathead tips and plenty of phillips head, but the sign of a really complete set of screwdrivers is that it includes torx tips. That's the kind that feels like a star on the end. Funny, I have yet to see a torx screw. Enjoy your gadgets!
