I decided to see how fast Jaunty Jackalope (Ubuntu 9.04) would boot with a solid-state hard drive. I used Intel's new X25-E Extreme, which uses faster single-level cell (SLC) memory chips instead of slower multi-level cell (MLC) memory chips.
Total boot time from pressing power to Firefox loaded was about 22.5 seconds, with about 5 seconds of BIOS display on a Thinkpad. That means that Ubuntu 9.04 booted into Firefox in about 17.5 seconds.

@vbpeepee Keylogger, trojan etc on my computer. Ya, it was my fault because I took down the firewall, but I did it because it was blocking some stuff. I forgot to put it back up and got a call from wells fargo saying my checking account had been compromised and i needed to scan my computer for spyware. Sure enough, I was loaded up with all sorts of goodies.
good on you man. I had a similar problem. Except my paypal account was hacked as well as my ebay account. The culprits sold a video camera on ebay for $1500, pocketed the money and then I copped a phone call from the buyer after he waited a month for the item to arrive. Long story short, the problem was solved and I snapped all my windows discs and threw them in the bin (if you wanna take that as the solution haha). Now I run Ubuntu 9.10 with full network security and I'm loving it!
