  • I tried to contact them by email before we went on our trip and got no reply, you may just have to go in and see them when you get to Santa Marta. They have tours leaving every few days.

  • Thanks for all the precious advice! I'm planning on going at the end of July. I have contacted Turcol by e-mail and am awaiting their answer. I'm used to the ruins in Mexico and they are always packed with people - this looks like one of the last truly preserved archeological sites that can still be enjoyed peacefully at the expense of some healthy sweat :)

  • There were spiders and winged creatures that were pretty cool. The other thing is - my friend and both got diarrhea. We think from the water. You are drinking river water and the guide will tell you where it is 'safe' but still - it's untreated. So the last 3 days had that added difficulty but I'd do it again in a heartbeat! When are you planning on going?

  • Hiking boots are a necessity, I would say. You may also want to bring water sandals because you do cross the river at least 10 times and sometime you are wading up to you thighs. (Bring a second pair of shoes anyway) I just wore my hiking shoes in the river and it was fine, less time wasted and good traction on the rocks. The only nasty creatures around were mosquitos - BRING INSECT REPELLENT, STRONG STUFF.

  • I found the contact details of Turcol, thanks a lot :) It looks like an amazing adventure! I'm rather fit but I'm somewhat afraid of the heat and humidity - can you use good regular hiking boots on this expedition? Any nasty visits from creatures with an excessive number (or total absence) of legs? :)

  • The only option available I believe is through Turcol and they take you by bus to a nearby town, then you trek 3 days there and 3 days back. You only get to spend one night in the Lost City but it's absolutely worth it. The trek is very difficult if you are not in great shape (that's me you hear panting in the video!). But if you are really fit, there is an option to stay a 2nd night and that would mean you would do 2 days of the trek back, in one day.

  • Beautiful! How did you get there? I read it's either a 6-day hike through the jungle or there is an option to get to some nearby village in car and make a shorter trek to the ruins?
