The bombing could also be linked to South Africa because PIK BOTHA (Foreign Secretary of South Africa) was due to fly on the flight, but he cancelled at the last minute. So it could even have been the work of the ANC, which some have thought. The American government thought it to be Iran not Libya in any case, but they changed their minds.

The Maltese Witness gave several different statements before changing it to identify Al-Megrahi after being paid $4million by the CIA. There was also a break-in at Heathrow airport the night before the Pan-Am flight left, none of this evidence was brought up in court, Thirdly a piece of circuit-board found at the scene was planted by the CIA to attach blame to Libya even though they knew that Iran paid Ahmed Djbril of the PFLP-CG to carry out the bombing.
