Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London

Highlight of the whole experience is the animated, hilarious tour by the Yeoman Warders. Not only are they storehouses of historical knowledge, but they are also just entertaining as hell, as this video demonstrates. And they don't just talk a good game...to be considered for the post one has to complete 22 years service as a senior NCO in the British army, Royal Marines, or RAF, and in general be a comprehensive ass-kicker. They do still hold a ceremonial role as guards of the monarch, after all.

The Yeoman Warders are all great in their own ways and no wonder that after a minimum of 22 years of service and having made it to the rank of Warrant Officer they have such a brilliant sense of humour :-)

Ah, Simon. I had him the first time I visited. You can see his training to be a Yeoman Warder in the Tower of London DVD set... it's quite good.

He is, like all the other Yeoman Warders, a former Warrant Officer in Her Majesty's Armed Forces, and is merely continuing the craft he perfected during his tenure as a Sergeant Major.

He demonstrates perfectly the calibre and quality of soldiery.
