Thanks :-) That's a snare dampener from Remo that works like a noise gate, neat little thing, developed by Dave Weckl I think.

Hi, I would like to thank you so much for these videos. I am still to be considered a beginner drummer and I realised how a "simple" rudiment like the single paradiddle can be used to build amazing fills and even solos. Thanks to have presented it at a very slow tempo, that's very important for beginners. Most of the videos show demonstrations at very fast tempo, it's very impressive but very discouragning... I look forward to trying it!
