  • Brava Ghena, you were great.

  • I heard no screaming. Huged voiced singers are rare now days, and mostly because they are ruined at universities. Everyone is taught to start out with Mozart (supposedly good for young voices, but seldom good for all voices, and never reall good for large voices), then they will supposedly graduate to "bigger roles" as they mature. VERY FEW voices do that. We are just used to lyrics forcing themselves to sing dramatic roles. Finally two people singing what their voices were meant to sing!

  • @raigekimaru Not only relative to the voice, but also to the repertoire. Nilsson referred to a Wagnerian pianissimo as being different to a Verdian pianissimo. Both are dramatic repertoire, but yet different...the Wagner texture being heavier...

  • @bisigato Is that why she was a leading dramatic soprano for over four decades? Shut up and take a seat.

  • @Turridu25

it's true, and pianissimo is also relative to the voice. pianissimo for a dramatic soprano is not going to be nearly as soft as a soubrette's pianissimo. my friend and I at university are both freshman and he was giving me a hard time a while back about not singing softly enough. the trouble is, he's a light tenor and I have an extremely large baritone voice.

  • @raymondhorneman That´s right, what a voice.

  • @BDSCalgary Amen, glad you said the TRUTH! I am so sick of the academic dissections of great artists, by young singers and professors alike, who purport to know what it means to have a long career on the stage, and who make nasty commentary about great singers, whilst never having set foot on a large stage with a full orchestra in their lives. I also hate the idea that we should rank artists. Bela Bartok said "competition is for horses, not artists". Many singers are GREAT in the same roles!

  • @ididete Amneris is angry...look up that part of the opera. If I remember correctly, this is when she throws her in jail due to her jealousy and what not and Aida is depressed

  • @Turridu25: Turridu ascolta ;-) THANK YOU, THANK YOU, GRAZIE, GRAZIE for your comment.
